Easy Like Sunday

IZA:  Me and Marley have become best buddies.
I like to hold him close.
He likes it too.
Being on TBT lap helps...
But we also curl up together unner the blankies at night next to TBT.

Ayla would be welcome, but she is a bit of a loner.  She only wants TBT.  By herself...

Mind you, she does get that attention...  Nokitty is unhappy here.

Caturday Saturday

MARLEY:  Iza and I really get along these days.
She's a good licker.
Dedicated...

And she can just stick her face on me and fall asleep.
TBT says she canm sleep annywhere and in almost any position.
I like that...

Freaky Friday

TBT here:  I just can't clip the Mews' claws.  I didn't get them accustomed to it as kittens.  They fight too much now.  It takes 2 people.  I thought they wore down their claws enough running arounf outside and using the sisal rope on the cat trees inside.

I had the vet do it at their annual visit, but apparently, that wasn't often enough.  It didn't seem to be a problem in years past, but their claws are longer and sharper as they grow older.

The vet was charging $30 per cat, and it seemed he was a bit harsh about it.  So last week, I looked at PetCo services online because I noticed they had a pet-grooming service.  The cost was $10 per cat and I figured they must be very experienced at clipping claws gently.

So I stopped by on my way to grocery shopping  last week.  I mentioned the website cost and hours, and mentioned just having the front claws clipped a bit because the Mews were literally sticking to the bed blankets, my clothes, and my skin.  Sometimes I had to actively disengage Ayla from the blankets when she got fish-hooked in them.

I was also asking about their least busy times because they encouraged "walk-ins".  The lady there said Tuesday morning were least busy.  I asked that because it is hard to get the Mews into carriers on a schedule.  Sometimes it takes only a few minutes; sometimes an hour!

I specifically mentioned CATS.  I reiterated cost per CAT.  I talked to the lady about my CATS.

So I brought Marley and Iza to the Petco groomers Monday at 10 am this week.  Ayla had hidden too well to bring along.  The GUY there said they didn't groom cats.  Confused, I went back to the car.  But I was annoyed.

The cats were safe;  it was 70F out and the windows were rdown, no possibility of overheating (and no harm occurred).  And nothing bad happened

I went back in and explained I was confused.  I repeated what I said above about the lady saying about grooming and me mentioning cats.  I mentioned the lady had a tattoo on her neck, she heard me saying "cats" and even that they were closed Wed and Thurs because there was just the 2 of them working as groomers.

The guy agreed with the website days and hours and that his grooming partner had a tattoo but would never have said the clipped cat claws.  Because they only do dogs...

Well, the vet was open for business, so I brought them there and their claws were clipped.  Happily, they had lowered their price to $15 per cat.  I watched them carefully.  Neither Marley or Iza had the least suggestion of annoyance.

So I drove home, caught Ayla and brought HER to the vet.  They clipped her claws the same way.  I watched closely...

That's part 1 of this.  Marley and Iza were just fine afterwards.

Ayla went nuts all week after the claw-clipping and I don't thing the vet did anything different that with Marley and Iza.  I was watching the whole time.  It doesn't seek like they accidently cut into the "quick".

But when I brought her home, she was spooked.  She hid for 3 days!  She cries when I call her to dinner as if something horrible is going to happen.  She didn't eat for a whole day and barely for the next 2 days.  She seemed back to normal yesterday (for the Garden Tour) but she reverted to hiding again later in the evening.

But when I called them all to meals, Ayla wouldn't come.  She just sat in a corner.  And if I approached, she cried and ran off into hiding places.  And then would suddenly run into my arms and purr for a few minutes and then squirm and run away again.

We have Felliway in the main living area.  She hides in the bedroom.

Her claws were really bothering her.  She kept getting them stuck in any cloth.  I ever saw her yanking at them on the bed blanket, not getting them free until I helped.

I know she is smaller than Iza and Marley.  Are her claws (troublesome as they might be overgrown) better to have anyway?

Last night, she was still mostly hiding.  Her claws have been clipped before at every annual vet visit.

Any thoughts?

AYLA:  I mentioned being upset yesserday.  There was a reason.  TBT brought us to have our claws clipped Monday.  I went all weerd all week...  I am afraid...

Garden Tour Thursday

AYLA:  Hi, and thanks fer coming along on our Garden Tour today!  We allus love having visitors...

Im doing the tour today cuz Ive been upset all week.   Just clippy-claws, but I'll explain about that tommorow.
With the rain every few days and sun the others, the flowers in the Hummingbird/Butterfly/Bee Garden have been doing VERY well.
So we will go out there first.
There aren't many of annykind yet, but TBT and we hope for more next year!
Supposedly, most are self-sowing older varieties of modern hybrids.
But as you can see there are lots of differnt colors and petals.
We havent seen as many of the butterflies and hummers around them, but maybe there arent enough yet.
We have seen many bees, and we think the native kind cuz they don't look like honey or bumble bees.   There ARE lots of those around the yard, but they seem to really like the clover in the lawn best.
And the butterflies seem addicted to the butterfly bushes.  Well, with a name like that, they SHOULD be!
Most of the flowers seem like zinnias, daisies, or coneflowers.  These little ones seem marigoldish.
We really like this colorful one.  We hope there are LOTS more next year! I think TBT will even try to save some seeds.
This one is really nice too.  I like lavender colors.  They are close to my favrit color (blue).
I like this one too.
We have more of these in the Meadow Garden.  I dont mind a little overlap, but I do think the beds should look different!
Now lets go back up on the deck!  The salvias are loving the new large pots.  Thats just 3 plants.   There are 2 other pots with them, but this one is best right now.
The marigolds are happy too.   TBT mixes his own potting soil each Late Winter in a big trash can.  It is about 1/3 sifted peat moss, 1/3 sifted compost and the rest is vermiculite and perlite.  It works for seed-starting that way.  For planters, he mixes in organic 2-6-6 slow release fertilizer.  The 2 is nitrogen (for leafs) and with the compost, they don't need much more.  The 6s are phosphorus and potassium.  Phosphorus makes strong roots and flowers.  Potassium makes the stems work well and moves nutrients around.  There are micro-nutrients needed and TBT adds some kelp meal and other weird stuff.  Sort of like vitamins in our food, I guess.
These yellow zinnias are happy in the hangin basket.  They would be bigger but the pot is small.  I think we need bigger hanging baskets next year.  Bigger pots, more flowers.  That is kind of the point of planting flowers, right?
Well, THAT was a LOT of flower-looking for one day!

Lets settle down on the shady part of the deck (or the sunny part iffen you need some solar power recharge) and see what IZA and Marley have made fer us to snack on.

Oh, today seems to be "Piggy Day"!  No, not eat like pigs, "eat pig".  We have separate saucers of little cubes of ham, pulled pork, and minced bacon.  All cooked without the nasty hot spices TBT likes.  He always cuts off a slab of the raw stuff and poaches it just fer our tender palates...

And what is THIS?  Nip cream smoothies!  And some crunchy salmon treats for a change of tastes.  Well dome Marley and IZA!

Thank you again fer coming on our Garden Tour this week!  We enjoy spending time in our yard with all of you...

It's My Birfday

MARLEYI'M 7 TODAY.  Seems like Ive lived my whole life here. but I was in a shelter once and then lived with a nice lady for a month after that before she learned she was allergic to me.  Then TBT brought me home.

Meezer Mews sent me a lovely card!

Toesie Tuesday

IZA:  TBT never gets tired of looking at my toesies.
Well, they ARE a good feature of mine!
And he says I keep moving them around.
Not that *I* would know...
OK, sometimes I wake up briefly...
But who could stay awake on HIS lap?
 ZZZZZZZZs
Dreaming of good things...
Mousies, TBT, toys, TBT, foods, TBT,  lap...
You would stay here too!

Answers To Comments

Once again, we answer some questions in your comments!

1.  Yesserday, we mentioned that we get more food when TBT stays up all night.  Megan asked "How does that work? If he's asleep, how can you get more foods?

Because it is nightime when he is awake.  In daytime, he is outside a lot and it is hard ta bother him.  It is either noisy equipment (and we are shut inside) or digging stuff we stay away from.  So we have to wait until he comes inside and he is all worn out an sits in a chair.  But when he is on the computer at night, we can walk all around him meowing fer food.  And we get it!

2.  Saturday, I was hiding in a box hoping for a pounce opportunity.

The Menagerie Mom asked "Oh, setting up an ambush can be so fun! You didn't have to wait long, did you, Ayla?'  Katie Isabella asked "Did some kitty come by?"

It was a total fail.  Marley and Iza were sleeping in the bedroom.  So TBT tossed in a milk ring, and I whapped that around fer a while. That helped...

3.  Freaky Friday was "A View From The Lap".  That got a lot of questions about where the treats were.

A.  Summer asked "But... where are the cat treats"?  Lone Star Cats dittoed that.  As did the Meezer Mews.  As did The Florida Furkids.

Well, when TBT sits down to dinner at the TV tray, he usually brings a couple dozen kibbles in a small bowl.  He tosses them around the room as he eats.  We LOVE chasing them as they bounce around oddly.  Sometimes, if we have just been fed Stinky Goodness, he tosses toys around instead.  But when he is done eating, the kibbles or toys are all gone.

B.  15&Meowing asked "What happened to Thursday's garden tour"?

Everything looked the same as last week, and we slept late.  So we skipped it.

4.  Womancat Wensday was about traffic on the deck rails.

A.  Mr Puddy said "Me think you are very smart to turn your face away while waiting for her to move.  Just in case.... Silent but violent".

Yeh, Iza farts.  We call them "SBDs (Silent But Deadly)".   You should hear her at night, her tummy rumbles and squeaks.  She doesn't hold her food well either (but weighs 10 pounds).  The vet can't find the problem.  He says her tummy is normal size, no blockages, no allergies, and TBT can't find a connection to any flavor or brand of food.  And we only get non-grain, non by-product Stinky Goodness.

B.  Others said to tap her back legs or push her out of the way.

Please, I (Ayla) am 6 lbs and Iza is 10.  And she is build like a brick!  I might as well try to actally shove a real brick...  The Vet allus says "Jeez, she is heavier than she looks".  Apparently, that is a Tonkie "thing".  LC was like that too, but a tuxie cobby cat.

C.  Meezer Mews said "Oh, dear, maybe TBT needs to widen that 'road' to more than one lane."

I (Alya) asked about that  and TBT said he wasn't going to put 18" wide tops on the deck rails.  He said wasps would love that for building nests under.  OK, I don't love wasps a whole lot.  So I just jump over her most of the time!  I might get a slight whap on the butt, but she keeps her claws in.  TBT says it is symbolic.

We love questions, keep them coming!

Easy Like Sunday

MARLEY:  We are getting laptime BEFORE TBT goes outside to the garden and yard for the day.  Thats unusual fer us (and him.
We appreciate it.
Oh, wait, he dint go to bed last night.  Computer stuff.  So he will go ta bed in daytime.  Well, thats HIS problem, not ours.

Actually, we get more food that way, so we dont mind...

Caturday Saturday

AYLA:  Night shots across the house...  More box time for me.
Im checking around ta see if Iza or Marley are sneaking up.  They arent.
So Im crouching down ta wait for one of them ta come by.  Only my ears are paying attention, but that is enough.
I hope somekitty comes by soon...
